O.J.V. the Koornbeurs is a youth and student association in Delft. In the center of the city is the historic building, which for 70 years has been home to young people who have gathered for more than a century for deep conversations, cool parties and conviviality over a drink. The Koornbeurs is an association that is a home for young people from the wider area, and both students and non-students are welcome.

The heart of the association is the brown café under the monumental cellar arches, which is open five days a week. At 10 o'clock in the morning, the first members already come to the building: to do association work, because they have appointments with people or because they want to study in the building. Around dinner time, the doors open to everyone, and there is a canteen for members. After dinner there is often a tearoom or an activity, and even after the brown café closes (somewhere after midnight) it regularly takes until 4 am before the last drinkers have left the building.

And we are not only active at the Koornbeurs during the week: you can also come to us during the weekend. On Friday and Saturday evening we open our doors again to organize the coolest parties in the area. The genres vary from blues to hard rock and from psychedelic to speed metal: if there are young people who like it, we can do it!

Members

Every year dozens of people join as members of the Koornbeurs. What do we have in common? The most important thing is our openness. The association consists of hundreds of members who are all completely different. We have partygoers who don't wake up until 4:00 PM, and we have students who come into their own when they can philosophize about what would be mathematically the "ugliest triangle." But one thing is always there: among all Koornbeursers there is a kind of natural relaxedness in which all opinions are respected and in which everyone can have a chat with everyone.

Thanks to this obviousness, a new member quickly notices that the Koornbeurs is more than a 'normal' association. We are a close group of people where everyone knows each other, and because we are so open, you regularly come into contact with new people, new ideas and new stories. 'Being a Koornbeurser' is not just a matter of paying a membership and then being allowed in: it enriches your world. Everyone can do everything in the Koornbeurs: we offer you an outstretched hand and it is up to you to make the most of your membership.

Activities

And 'making the most of your membership', we certainly know how to do that here. Every day there is something new to experience in the association. Sometimes organized, sometimes spontaneous. We organize movie nights, dinners, theme parties, game tournaments and live performances. The Koornbeurs has stood at the foot of the careers of comedians such as Hans Teeuwen, and the next day a barbecue is casually organized or people go bobbing through the Delft canals in an inflatable boat. Sometimes we go with a whole group to theater performances in the neighborhood, or we invite a teacher to teach ourselves how to act. We also do weekends abroad, just like sailing holidays or trips to a beer brewery.

And everything that happens in the Koornbeurs is organized and carried out by volunteers. Ourselves. Manning the bar, cooking meals and the technique for parties. After an active period at the Koornbeurs, some members even continue their career as light or sound technicians. There is an enormous amount of (catering) knowledge within the association, and we are happy to share it with everyone who is interested in it.

The café

The brown café of the Koornbeurs is located in the basement of the building. This cellar dates from 1295 and provides a special atmosphere with its medieval appearance.

In our café, not only lager and soft drinks are served. There is also a wide range of specialty beer available. Keep in mind that at the end of the evening you still have to climb a flight of stairs…

The bar is the center of the association. Good ideas are conceived here, worked out on a beer mat, forgotten for a long time, only to be suddenly implemented. Romances start at the bar and are broken just as well, when a romance with a good whiskey comes in between. A nice place to spend a large part of the evening.

You can find our opening hours here .

Tea attic

Our tearoom is open to non-members every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Under the monumental attic beams you can enjoy 42 different types of tea. You can also choose from two types of cake. For coffee drinkers we have a choice of 2 or 3 different espressos.

The audience is quite diverse. Of course there are always Koornbeursers who want to catch up after a hard day of work or study. The tea loft is also particularly suitable for celebrating birthdays or playing games.
